A flat sheet is not stretched over the mattress but laid on it and tucked in underneath; this keeps the surface softer and shows the drape of the fabric. In Pure White, it is the surface of the sateen that you see: the fine sheen comes from the satin weave. Pure White is one of the colours of our Classico sateen collection.

On a bed that stays uncovered during the day, white sateen gives a calm, bright surface. Its soft drape traces the folds more gently than a sheet pulled taut.

Without elastic, a flat sheet has no sides sewn to a fixed depth – it is tucked under the mattress instead. The same size therefore fits mattresses of different depths, as long as there is enough fabric left to tuck in, and that is its real advantage over a fitted sheet.

A flat sheet can also go on top: as a layer between skin and duvet or, on warm nights, in place of the duvet. This is how it is usually used in southern Europe – the 254x294 cm size corresponds there to the Italian lenzuolo matrimoniale for a double bed. The same smooth face as on the duvet cover lies against the skin, and as a top sheet it is changed more often than the duvet.

The table shows which size goes with which mattress; each size allows enough fabric to tuck in on all four sides.

In the trade, sateen made from this kind of cotton is usually sold as ‘Mako satin’; Mako is the Egyptian variety of the same species. The sateen has 320 threads per square inch (320 TC), weighs 120 g/m² and is woven in Northern Italy.

Made to measure in the atelier

Each sheet is cut and sewn after your order is placed.
