Cotton sateen bedding set in Celadon Green
Celadon Green is a restrained green, closer to grey than to the green of plants. The sheen of the satin weave shifts the shade further: on green sateen bedding, the edges that catch the light look silvery, while the hollows stay green. Celadon Green is one of the colours of our Classico sateen collection. The set consists of a duvet cover and pillowcase; a fitted sheet and a flat sheet can be added.
Celadon – a muted grey-green
The shade is close to the colour of a eucalyptus leaf: grey-green, dusty, with no freshness to it. It shares its name with the East Asian ceramic glaze whose grey-green is produced in the firing, not found in nature. It brings no colour into the bedroom, only a tint, and for that it needs a neutral setting: pale woods, white walls, linen and unglazed ceramics. How much green shows depends on the light – in bright rooms it comes through clearly; in rooms with little daylight the surface reads as almost grey. That is the nature of such a desaturated shade, not a variation in the fabric.
Who green sateen is for
Sateen lies smooth and soft against the skin and has a quiet sheen; anyone who prefers a matt, dry surface is better served by percale. Anyone looking for a deep, fresh green will not find it here: Celadon is the most muted of our greens – the greens in our percale collection are fresher and cooler, and Aloe Mint Green is distinctly mintier. With sheets in Pure White the effect stays light; with Travertine Beige, the result is a contrast of warm and cool.
Fibre, weave and surface
Satin is a weave, not a fibre. Woven from cotton, it is called sateen. In a satin weave, the warp thread passes over several weft threads before it interlaces again. This leaves more yarn lying on the surface, which gives the smooth face its fine sheen and soft drape.
The yarn is spun from combed American Pima cotton. Pima is a long-staple cotton. Its longer fibres can be spun into a finer, more even yarn, with fewer fibre ends standing out from the surface. Combing also removes short fibres. In the trade, sateen made from this kind of cotton is usually sold as ‘Mako satin’. Mako is the Egyptian variety of the same cotton species; our fibre is grown in the USA. For this fabric: 320 threads per square inch (320 TC), 120 g/m², woven in Northern Italy. The weave is described in more detail on our sateen bed linen page.
Sizes and made to measure
The duvet cover comes in 31 sizes, from 90×120 cm to 285×250 cm, and the pillowcase in 26 pillow sizes, from 30×50 cm to 40×145 cm, plus a cover for the 15×40 cm neck roll. You choose the two sizes independently. If your size is not listed, we sew it to your measurements – at no extra charge, on request by email or WhatsApp.
Made in the atelier
Each set is cut and sewn after your order is placed. Because we make to order, we do not keep finished bed linen in stock – you receive not a ready-made piece but a set made for your order. The zips on the duvet cover and pillowcase are of German manufacture and have metal sliders. They are concealed and colour-matched to the fabric.
Care and certification
The fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. Wash Celadon Green inside out at 40 °C.
