Tencel bedding

Our Tencel bedding is made from TENCEL™ Modal with Micro Technology — a particularly fine modal quality made from European beech wood. Woven in a sateen weave, the fabric has a smooth, softly shimmering surface and a light, fluid drape. It absorbs moisture and releases it again. The fabric feels soft against the skin and can feel pleasantly cool, particularly on warm nights. TENCEL™ is Lenzing’s fibre brand; at VON SCHÜTZ, we call this quality MicroModal. Every set is made to order in our ateliers — in the standard sizes of our collection or to your preferred dimensions.

What is Tencel? Modal, Lyocell and our MicroModal

Under the TENCEL™ fibre brand, Lenzing offers Modal and Lyocell, among other fibres — two wood-based cellulose fibres. They differ in how they are produced: TENCEL™ Modal is made using a modified viscose process, while TENCEL™ Lyocell is produced in a closed-loop solvent process.

For our bedding, we deliberately chose TENCEL™ Modal with Micro Technology, which we refer to as MicroModal. This fine Modal quality contributes to the fabric’s smooth, soft and silky surface. Combined with the sateen weave, it creates the fabric’s light, fluid drape.

The beechwood used for our MicroModal comes from Europe, and the fibre itself is also produced in Europe. At VON SCHÜTZ, we use both of these TENCEL™ fibre types: MicroModal for bedding and Lyocell for selected duvet and pillow fillings.

The Buna collection

100% Modal (MicroModal) · 125 g/m² · sateen weave

The Buna collection is currently available in white. At 125 g/m², the fabric is light and fluid. The sateen weave — in which the threads pass over several interlacing points — creates a smooth, subtly shimmering surface and a soft drape.

MicroModal or cotton?

MicroModal and cotton are both suited to fine bedding, but they differ in origin and drape. MicroModal is made from wood-based cellulose and processed into a fine Modal fibre, resulting in a smooth, subtly shimmering surface with a light, fluid drape.

Our cotton fabrics range from matt and dry in percale to subtly lustrous in sateen. Our cotton sateen also uses a sateen weave; the difference in character comes primarily from the fibre. MicroModal drapes more lightly and fluidly, while our cotton sateen has a more defined, substantial feel.

MicroModal in summer and throughout the year

MicroModal absorbs moisture and releases it again. The fabric has a smooth handle and can feel pleasantly cool on warm nights. Whether a bed feels warm or cool also depends on the duvet, the room temperature and individual perception — not on the fibre alone.

The silky handle and its care

MicroModal is a particularly fine fibre. Its smooth handle and light drape shape the character of the fabric. The recommended care at low temperatures helps preserve that character. The fabric’s fine, smooth handle is best judged in the hand — with a fabric sample.

From the atelier

Every set is made only after your order is placed. It is cut and sewn in our ateliers in Germany and Poland, while the fabric is woven by our weaving mill in Northern Italy.

The fibre used is TENCEL™ Modal with Micro Technology, made from European beechwood. Textile production therefore remains in Europe — from fibre to finished seam.

The bed linen fabrics used are certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. Each set is finished with a concealed zip.

In your size

Made to your dimensions — up to 285 cm wide.

The dimensions of your duvet and pillows are what matter, not the size of the bed. Alongside our standard sizes, we make duvet covers to custom dimensions up to 285 cm wide. Widths up to 280 cm can be selected directly in the configurator; wider versions are made following an individual feasibility assessment.

Send us the required width and length in centimetres. Oliwia, our Atelier Concierge, will reply personally by email or WhatsApp and confirm the price before you order. An overview of standard dimensions is available in our bedding size guide.

A set comprising a pillowcase and duvet cover is available from €149. The colour, subtle shimmer and feel of MicroModal are best appreciated by touch. For a sample fee that will be credited in full towards your order, you can compare the fabric at home — alongside percale, sateen and linen in the sample set. Request a fabric sample.

Care: Wash at up to 40 °C

Tencel bedding made from MicroModal should be washed inside out at up to 40 °C. It is suitable for tumble drying at a low temperature and may be ironed at up to 150 °C. When in doubt, follow the sewn-in care label.
