Cotton sateen duvet cover in Porcelain Blue

The duvet cover is the largest visible surface of a made bed – and in this shade, it shows where the colour settles. A blue sateen duvet cover looks light in the middle and takes on colour in the folds: where light falls on the edges, the shade turns almost white, and where fabric lies on fabric, the blue gathers. Porcelain Blue is one of the colours of our Classico sateen collection.

A very light blue across the bed

The larger the surface, the more the folds decide how the colour appears: pulled smooth, the cover looks almost white; turned back, it is distinctly blue. It is a cool, clear shade of blue that makes a light room look more spacious. In a room with little daylight, and under warm evening light, it becomes muted and moves towards grey. With pale wood and white walls it stays calm; against dark wood it makes the bed stand out. It is slightly lighter and paler than the Azure Light Blue of our percale collection – not a second version of the same shade, but a shade of its own.

Fibre, weave and drape

Satin is a weave, not a fibre. Woven from cotton, it is called sateen. In a satin weave, the warp thread passes over several weft threads before it interlaces again. This leaves more yarn lying on the surface, which gives the smooth face its fine sheen and soft drape. It is this smooth face that allows such a pale shade to reflect light at the edges.
The yarn is spun from combed American Pima cotton. Pima is a long-staple cotton. Its longer fibres can be spun into a finer, more even yarn, with fewer fibre ends standing out from the surface. Combing also removes short fibres. In the trade, sateen made from this kind of cotton is usually sold as ‘Mako satin’. Mako is the Egyptian variety of the same cotton species; our fibre is grown in the USA. For this cover: 320 threads per square inch (320 TC), 120 g/m², woven in Northern Italy. Sizes and made to measure

You can choose from 31 sizes, ranging from 90×120 cm for a child’s bed to 285×250 cm. If your size is not among them, we sew the cover to your measurements – at no extra charge, on request by email or WhatsApp.

Zip and atelier

We sew the duvet cover after your order is placed. The zip is of German manufacture and has a metal slider. It is concealed and colour-matched to the fabric, so the cover closes without a visible row of buttons.

Care and certification

The fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. Wash Porcelain Blue inside out at 40 °C.
