Cotton sateen flat sheet in Travertine Beige, without elastic
A flat sheet is not stretched over the mattress but laid on it and tucked in underneath; this keeps the surface softer and shows the drape of the fabric. On a beige sateen flat sheet, the tone takes its freest form: the fabric falls softly, laying light edges and dark hollows side by side, with no seam to hold the surface in place. Travertine Beige is one of the colours of our Classico sateen collection.
Travertine on an uncovered bed
On a bed that stays uncovered during the day, a warm mid-tone gives a unified, calm surface with depth – unlike a pale sheet, which mainly brightens the room. The soft drape traces the folds in rounder curves than a sheet pulled taut, and because the tone is dark enough, the edges of the shadows stay visible instead of fading into the light. Compared with Cream Light Beige from our percale collection, Travertine is distinctly darker; compared with Taupe Greige from the same Classico collection, it is warmer and less grey.
Tucked in, not stretched
Without elastic, a flat sheet has no sides sewn to a fixed depth – it is tucked under the mattress instead. The same size therefore fits mattresses of different depths, as long as there is enough fabric left to tuck in, and that is its real advantage over a fitted sheet.
As a top sheet on warm nights
A flat sheet can also go on top: as a layer between skin and duvet or, on warm nights, in place of the duvet. This is how it is usually used in southern Europe – the 254×294 cm size corresponds there to the Italian lenzuolo matrimoniale for a double bed. The same smooth face as on the duvet cover lies against the skin, and as a top sheet it is changed more often than the duvet.
Which size fits
The table shows which size goes with which mattress; each size allows enough fabric to tuck in on all four sides.

Surface and drape
The fabric is a satin weave in combed American Pima cotton, a long-staple cotton whose long fibres give a finer, more even yarn; as a result, it stays smoother and is less prone to shedding fibres. In the trade, sateen made from this kind of cotton is usually sold as ‘Mako satin’; Mako is the Egyptian variety of the same species. The sateen has 320 threads per square inch (320 TC), weighs 120 g/m² and is woven in Northern Italy. This weight gives the fabric the soft drape that defines an uncovered bed.
