Cotton sateen bedding set in Porcelain Blue
What Porcelain Blue brings to a room is not so much colour as temperature. In a shade this light, a blue sateen bedding set looks almost white where the surface is smooth – the blue gathers where fabric lies on fabric and shows most clearly in the folds. Porcelain Blue is one of the colours of our Classico sateen collection. The set consists of a duvet cover and pillowcase; a fitted sheet and a flat sheet can be added.
Rooms that suit Porcelain Blue
Porcelain Blue is the shade for bright rooms and for people who prefer a cooler look in the bedroom. In a south-facing room it looks clear and fresh and makes the surface of the bed appear wider. It takes its name from porcelain glaze, whose very light blue belongs to the same cool family. It suits pale wood and white walls; against dark wood, the contrast makes the bed stand out. Chrome and nickel sit well with it, while brass clashes. In north-facing rooms and under warm evening light, a shade this cool is at odds with the lamplight and moves towards grey – for a bedroom that feels warm in the evening, Travertine Beige is the better choice.
Who light blue sateen is for
Sateen lies smooth and soft against the skin and has a quiet sheen; anyone who prefers a matt, dry surface is better served by percale. Among our blues, Porcelain Blue is the lightest and palest: the Azure Light Blue of the percale collection is slightly stronger, and Denim Grey-Blue is darker and deeper – so Porcelain Blue is not the same blue in another fabric, but a shade of its own. With Pure White sheets, everything stays light and calm; with Travertine Beige, the result is a contrast of warm and cool.
Fibre, weave and surface
Satin is a weave, not a fibre. Woven from cotton, it is called sateen. In a satin weave, the warp thread passes over several weft threads before it interlaces again. This leaves more yarn lying on the surface, which gives the smooth face its fine sheen and soft drape.
The yarn is spun from combed American Pima cotton. Pima is a long-staple cotton. Its longer fibres can be spun into a finer, more even yarn, with fewer fibre ends standing out from the surface. Combing also removes short fibres. In the trade, sateen made from this kind of cotton is usually sold as ‘Mako satin’. Mako is the Egyptian variety of the same cotton species; our fibre is grown in the USA. For this fabric: 320 threads per square inch (320 TC), 120 g/m², woven in Northern Italy. The weave is described in more detail on our sateen bed linen page.
Sizes and made to measure
The duvet cover comes in 31 sizes, from 90×120 cm to 285×250 cm, and the pillowcase in 26 pillow sizes, from 30×50 cm to 40×145 cm, plus a cover for the 15×40 cm neck roll. You choose the two sizes independently. If your size is not listed, we sew it to your measurements – at no extra charge, on request by email or WhatsApp.
Made in the atelier
Each set is cut and sewn after your order is placed. Because we make to order, we do not keep finished bed linen in stock – you receive not a ready-made piece but a set made for your order. The zips on the duvet cover and pillowcase are of German manufacture and have metal sliders. They are concealed and colour-matched to the fabric.
Care and certification
The fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. Wash Porcelain Blue inside out at 40 °C.
